Presentation at the Colloquium ISSR: “Art and Politics: Social imaginaries in the Streets in times of Covid-19” by Sara Wiederkehr

December 1, 2020 PhD student and member of the ERC Artivism team, Sara Wiederkehr presented her research “Art and Politics: Social imaginaries in the Streets: An anthropological approach to Mural Art in LA” at the research colloquium of the Institute of the Social Sciences of Religions (ISSR) – Université de Lausanne. Her presentation “Art and Politics: Social imaginaries in the Streets in times of Covid-19: An anthropological approach to Mural Art in LA” aimed at sharing her ongoing research challenged by the current pandemic and the travel ban to the USA.

Her research project aims at exploring mural art in the streets of Los Angeles as part of the social dynamics of the neighborhoods, and as an artistic expression of the political and social struggles. The outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 in the first days of 2020 changed her research plans, and she had to postpone her fieldwork. Currently, she is focusing in digital ethnography and in analysing the construction of mural artivism in digital spaces.
