Street Art in Los Angeles (USA)
This field of research focuses on street art and community artivism in Los Angeles, where public and community-based art serve as a means to reclaim neighbourhoods. The appropriation of public spaces through artistic engagement can be seen as a strategy of resistance to neo-liberal phenomena such as gentrification or the privatisation of urban space. How do these murals shape the city’s social life? Following the tracks of community-based projects, a PhD student participates in the creation of murals and investigate how do muralists express political claims through their art.
