The 3rd ERC-ARTIVISM workshop is dedicated to the carnival, as a preparation of the forthcoming exploratory fieldworks of two of our researchers. Monika and Federica will indeed leave soon for Viareggio, Nice and Marseille, where the carnivals will occur between February and March. A preparatory meeting is needed to exchange previous fieldwork experiences and ideas on how to organize the research once in the field. We reflect on how to analytically define carnival and the carnivalesque, and on how to approach the field sites.
