The study of carnivals paves the way to an understanding of the social and political context wherein this festive event takes place. In Nice, a glance at the floats of the 2019 carnival leads the spectator to reflect upon some major issues that have been in the front-row of the national and international (political) scene (e.g. #Me too movement, French and international politics). Yet, through the analysis of carnival broader reflections can be further developed in terms of e.g. securing public spaces, enclosing festive events, promoting tourism and gentrification processes.
