Marseille: Carnaval indépendant de la Plaine/Noailles/Réformés/Belle de Mai

Federica and Pascal are in Marseille to participate in the 19th edition of the Carnaval indépendant de la Plaine/Noailles/Réformés/Belle de Mai. The carnival takes place in central neighbourhoods currently undergoing a process of gentrification that is highly contested by the inhabitants. Since 2016, the Caramentran, the main carnival float, addresses indeed the renovation’s plans of the Jean Jaurès square (la Plaine) taking the shape of e.g. a vulture (2016), a big black rat (2017) and Gorgon (2018).
